Short Form / Generic

Kevin Jones leads a team of over 80 engineers and researchers in Electric Transmission at Dominion Energy. Their work centers on time-series sensor data from the grid, enterprise data integration, digital product development, and technology strategy. He earned his Ph.D. in electric power systems from Virginia Tech in 2013 as a Harry Lynde Bradley Fellow. He lives in Richmond, Virginia.

Long Form / Industry Specific

Kevin Jones earned his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in 2013 as a Harry Lynde Bradley Fellow, studying synchrophasor technology, wide-area measurement systems, and linear state estimation. He wrote the open-source Linear State Estimator, since picked up and commercialized by several industry vendors, to give real-time transmission control centers a more resilient view of the grid. At Dominion Energy he built the ANalysis On DEmand (ANODE) platform, which cut the outage planning team’s analytic turnaround by three orders of magnitude and made it possible to plan the capital expansion that data center load growth and the clean energy transition now demand. Over the past decade he has pushed Dominion’s synchrophasor data program forward, including partnerships with a number of small technology startups. He now leads an organization of over 80 engineers working on data-driven operations support, engineering analysis of time-series sensor data from the transmission grid, enterprise data integration, digital product development, and technology strategy for Electric Transmission.
