Short Form / Generic
Kevin is a thoughtful, innovative leader with over a decade of utility experience in electric transmission. He currently leads a technology-forward engineering organization of nearly four dozen engineers and researchers in Electric Transmission at Dominion Energy. His teams focus on leveraging time-series sensor data from the grid, supporting enterprise data integration, digital product development & management, and broader technology strategy for Electric Transmission. Kevin received his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech as a Harry Lynde Bradley Fellow in 2013 where he studied electric power systems. He is currently based in Richmond, VA.
Long Form / Industry Specific
Kevin Jones received his Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in 2013 as a Harry Lynde Bradley Fellow where he studied synchrophasor technology, wide area measurement systems, and linear state estimation. Kevin developed the open source Linear State Estimator—now commercialized by several industry vendors—used for improving resiliency of real-time transmission control centers. He also developed the ANalysis On DEmand (ANODE) platform at Dominion Energy, increasing the analytic throughput of the outage planning team by more than 1000x and enabling the aggressive capital expansion required to support the data center load growth and the clean energy transition. He championed Dominion Energy’s synchrophasor data program over the last decade including collaborations with best-of-breed technology startups. Kevin now oversees an organization of nearly four-dozen engineers who focus on data-driven operations support and engineering analysis of time-series sensor data from the electric transmission grid, modernized enterprise data integration strategies, digital product development & management, and broader technology strategy & enablement for Electric Transmission.
